WINTER DESIGN TRENDS 2022

Baby, it’s cold outside—and probably windy and rainy, too (we’re looking at you, Sydney and Melbourne!). It is not exactly weather that’ll entice a person to venture out. Welcome to the season of staying in, curled up on the couch, favourite mug in hand, Netflix on repeat, heater set to high. Nights spent like this will catapult home décor to the top of your priority list.

And so, as the season for hibernating sets in, you'll inevitably look for ways you can give your living quarters a much-needed spruce up. Here are three current trends you can easily integrate into your home as you hibernate, which are guaranteed to dominate the interiors world this winter and beyond.

1. Chrome

After a period very much dominated by bronze and brass fixtures and fittings, we are seeing a return to chrome. Introduce this trend into your home with pieces like wall hooks, organic shaped mirrors, a lamp or even a side table - all plated in the cool, highly reflective silver of chrome.

2. Stripes

Love it or hate it, the boucle is officially on its way out, and in its place—stripes. That’s right, thick, linear, symmetrical stripes in alternating fields of two or three colours. They may be simple, but with the right application they can transform a space, lending a crisp freshness to all that they touch. Try using this trend with pieces like a stool or some throw pillows.

3. Bobbins

You’ve likely seen them propping up in beds and candlesticks, bobbins (also known as spool furniture) are a traditional American design feature that gets its name from having legs and other parts lathe- turned to ornamental shapes. Recent search trends shows demand for bobbin furniture has jumped 78%! Bobbins weave industrial and romantic influences into cylindrical frames for chairs, beds, stools etc, making ordinary pieces of furniture vastly more playful.
